We are so excited about our gardening workshop coming up at the end of March! Starting a garden is a fun learning experience for the whole family and you'll reap the benefits for several months with a good harvest. Home gardening is hard work, especially the first year, but there's nothing like a fresh salad or a juicy red tomato that's bursting with flavor because you planted it right next to basil. And, I must say, enjoying the harvest all winter long is a huge blessing!

Because Spring is right around the corner, the time to start seeds indoors is near and because we're so excited about our workshop, we'd like to give away a gardening book to help you get a head start on your gardening projects!

Recommended Reading: Books on Nutrition

One of my favorite things to do in the winter is catch up on some reading. Snuggling up with a blanket and a good book is such a good stress reliever! I've got a list of books I'd like to read on nutrition, recommended by Dr. Blanchard of course. 

For many, winter can be the hardest time to eat healthy as we seek out comfort foods to replace sunshine and active summer days. So reading up on healthy foods and how to maintain good eating habits may help you stay on top of things this winter. On the flip side, maybe you're looking to make healthy changes in the upcoming year. If so, these are all great resources that will encourage you to take back your health!

1. Going Back to the Basics of Human Health — Mary Frost

2. Lick the Sugar Habit — Nancy Appleton

3. The Real Truth About Vitamins and Antioxidants — Judith DeCava

4. Birth without Violence—Frederick Leboyer M.D.
This is the best book I've read all year! Beautifully written chapters on the differences between natural and unnatural birth. I highly recommend this book to any expecting mother or any woman who wishes to have children. I bought the book to have on hand, being that I'm in child-bearing years, but you can also read most of it online for free here.

6. Protein Power—Dr. Michael Eades
I have a friend who is reading this book right now and he highly recommends it.

Whole Living

I love getting magazines in the mail. To me, there's nothing more relaxing than snuggling up on the couch with a good book or magazine and a cup of tea and perusing each beautifully designed page—sounds like a true graphic designer, eh?

I've subscribed to a lot of great beautifully designed magazines over the years, but eye candy just doesn't get me excited anymore. I long for information that I can use and I love learning something new or trying new things. Being in the media biz, I know that there are a lot of magazines on the newsstand relating to health and wellness and it can be challenging to decide which ones are best for a natural living lifestyle, but I do have a favorite.

Whole Living (formerly body+soul)
Whole Living is a Martha Stewart Publication that caters to an audience who want to make good, healthy decisions for the whole body. I can honestly say that this magazine has never disappointed me. Every issue I learn something I didn't know and get excited about trying at least one, if not all, of the recipes featured. Now, I've found that there are some things, nutritionally, that I do not agree with, but overall I really do think this magazine has a lot to offer.

So, if you're looking to subscribe to a magazine that may be helpful on your natural health journey and that will provide some good reading during the cold winter months ahead, Whole Living is a good option.

Knowing what I know now about nutrition and natural beauty products, I still do lots of research on products featured in any magazine. Advertising is advertising. Companies pay big money to get a large colorful ad in front of you trying to entice you to buy their product. The same goes for information. I still come across information and articles that I have a different opinion on. Always, always read labels and don't be afraid to do some extra research. If you have questions about a specific product or ingredient, ask your nutritionist about it.
